The Human Factor

  • Part of your KDS implementation plan MUST take into account how this new system will impact every member of your team. We cannot stress enough the importance of pre-introduction communications, clear policies and proper training for all of your team members.

  • Know that some users and even some managers may harbor resistance, resentment and even fear when they are confronted with new technology.

  • Carefully discuss your implementation plan with everyone involved. Give your team members the opportunity to submit their comments and have their questions answered.

  • A good strategy is to develop and announce a timeline with milestones in your implementation plan so that the information is delivered to the team in stages. This will give everyone a chance to gradually familiarize themselves with the system and become more comfortable with it.

  • Understand that the learning curve will vary between individuals and also be sure that the team members have access to follow up training resources.

  • You will need to develop a KDS training program for your new hires and a plan to implement changes to the system going forward.
