Digital Signage

Digital Specials Boards

Digital Signage in a restaurant environment usually takes the form of menu boards and specials screens.

Although initially more costly, these dynamic systems offer much greater flexibility than traditional static printed signage. These dynamic systems can deliver huge benefits to operators over time.

Digital Signage can be used to display many types of content such as:

  • Menus

  • Entertainment

  • Advertising, Specials, Promotions, Market Testing

  • Interactive Information Kiosks

  • Directories, Mapping, Directions and Access Control

  • Educational , News, RSS Feeds

  • Communication

  • Public Announcements, General and Emergency Messaging

  • Event Scheduling

Digital signage displays are divided in two basic screen types; Display only screens and interactive display screens

Display only Screens

Most display only screens are usually 46” class or larger, and depending on the application, can be configured in either landscape or portrait orientation.

Standard sized display screens are located close to, or somewhat above, eye level whenever possible. In some situations the physical size of the screen and environment dictates that the screens must be elevated some distance above the observer’s normal field of view.

Larger displays are comprised of multiple screens in a grid pattern that are located above the observers. These systems are managed by sophisticated matrix switching devices that allow them to display one large composite image on all screens or different imagery on each screen.

Very large displays like those seen in Times Square NY and sports stadiums are most often located very high above the observers and use arrays of thousands of individual RGB lighting modules that are networked together to create any type of imagery imaginable.

Interactive Display Screens

Screens used for interactive display are usually equipped with touch technology to allow user inputs. These screens are typically 46” class or smaller, and depending on the application, can be configured in either landscape or portrait orientation. These screens are often installed in a “walk up” configuration either on a wall or in a freestanding kiosk allowing the users to stand directly in front of the screen.

Interactive displays are usually located close to, or in some cases, just below eye level. In some situations the screens are installed in a flat horizontal position to create a “look down” display or the screen will be nearly flat and tilted upward toward the users. In some scenarios an interactive display will have external input devices such as a keyboard, a machine vision or video conference camera, a biometric reader, a barcode reader or a card reader for identification and transaction verification.

Both interactive and display screens will have either an internal or outboard computer, a mounting system, and will require connection to power and a network.

Digital Signage Software

Software packages are available for a wide range of applications that use any web-browser accessed via any PC, laptop or Android device.

Software functionality can be as simple as a basic easy to use templated system for a single display to a powerful full function system capable of a myriad of display options that can handle advanced operations such as networking multiple sites, interactive user interfaces, artificial intelligence, database development, display event scheduling, etc.
